The major characteristics of self-managed work teams include:
(1) few management levels and job descriptions
(2) egalitarian culture
(3) a physical site with boundaries
(4) a team is kept as small as possible
(5) work teams order material and equipment, set goals, decide production, help set rewards, and have a voice in whom is hired and fired
(6) team members have a vision
(7) strong partnership between team members and management
(8) team members have a variety of viewpoints and skills
(9) information is openly shared
(10) team members have good interpersonal skills and a desire and ability to work with others
(11) training is a major requirement
(12) primary emphasis is on customers
