Answer to Question 1

Answer to Question 2

The key members of conflicting groups meet to work on issues or interface. Intergroup team-building meetings usually take one or two days. Members are brought together to reduce misunderstanding, open communication, and develop mechanisms for collaboration. In order to clear out any team issues, intragroup team development should occur before intergroup team building. The team building meeting usually involves the following steps:
1, Each group makes three lists before the meeting: how do we see ourselves, how do we think the other group sees us, and how do we see the other group.
2, The groups meet together and tape their lists to the wall. A spokesperson for each group presents the group's lists.
3, The groups meet separately to discuss the discrepancies in perception and react to the feedback.
4, The groups divide into subgroups of five or six made up members of the two departments with the objective of agreeing upon a diagnosis of the problems and developing solutions.
5, A follow-up meeting to evaluate progress is scheduled.
