Why does Pirsig say, An experiment is never a failure solely because it fails to achieve predicted results?

If your teacher says It is right because Ary, Jacobs, and Sorensen say so in your textbook what source of knowledge is he/she using?

Answer to Question 1

A study is not a failure simply because one does not find support for the hypothesis. This means that there was not sufficient evidence to enable one to reject the null hypothesis. It can be a stimulus to further research on the question.

Answer to Question 2

The teacher would be using authority as a source of knowledge.
