Answer to Question 2

Hong Kong was ceded to the British following the Opium War in 1842. In 1860, the British also obtained possession of Kowloon on the Chinese mainland, and in 1898 they were granted a 99-year lease. The lease expired on July 1, 1997 and China resumed political control of Hong Kong and designated it a special administrative region. As a SAR, Hong Kong has its own legislature, economic freedom, free-port status, and a separate taxation system. This status will last until 2047. From an international business perspective, China's designation of Hong Kong as a SAR went far in terms of reassuring MNCs with operations in Hong Kong.
