Answer to Question 1

1) Individualism/Collectivism. Individualism refers to the value a culture places on individual achievements and independence, versus a collectivist culture, which values interdependence and group achievement.

2) Uncertainty avoidance. Uncertainty avoidance is the degree to which a culture is uncomfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty, versus an uncertainty acceptance culture, where people are motivated by change and enjoy new opportunities.

3) Goal orientation. Cultures with aggressive goal orientation tend to value assertiveness, competitiveness, and achievements. Cultures with passive goal orientation tend to value social relationships and the quality of life more than achievements.

4) Power orientation. Power orientation, or power distance, is the degree to which a culture is comfortable with hierarchy in their society. Cultures with low power distance tend to question decisions and not follow leadership if it is not in their best interest.

5) Short-term and long-term orientation. Cultures with short-term orientation focus on the past and the present and value short-term return. Cultures with long-term orientation focus on the future, value hard work and persistence, and are willing to wait for results.
