Answer to Question 3

The advantages of group decision making are: provides more complete information, bringing diversity of experience and perspective to the decision-making process; generates more alternatives because groups have a greater quantity and diversity of information, they can identify more alternatives than an individual; increases acceptance of a solution  if the people who will be affected by the solution and who will implement it get to participate in the process, they will be more likely to accept the decision; and increases legitimacy because it is consistent with democratic ideals.

The disadvantages of group decision making are: time consuming because it takes time to assemble a group and longer to reach a decision; minority domination creates the opportunity for one or more members to use their advantages to dominate others in the group; pressures to conform because group members desire to be accepted and considered assets to the group; and ambiguous responsibility because group members are unsure of who is responsible for the final outcome  the responsibility of any single member is watered down.
