Answer to Question 1

The key piece of hardware in a BI system is a BI server. A BI server is used by an analyst to analyze the data and produce the output. A BI server can deliver output in a variety of formats.
A variety of BI software supports each of the three activities in the BI processacquiring, analyzing, and publishing. While some software products such as Excel can support several of the activities, very few support each of the steps. SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft offer a comprehensive suite of BI software products that support each of the activities for medium to large organizations.
