Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology can be used to identify and track items in the supply chain. As small and as cheap as a grain of rice, RFID chips broadcast data to receivers that can display and record the data. In the supply chain domain, suppliers put RFID chips on the outside of boxes and shipping pallets so that when those boxes get to their destination, the receiving company can know the contents of the box without opening it. This makes tracking inventory faster and cheaper for all collaborating companies in a supply chain.
