The support activities in the generic value chain contribute indirectly to the production, sale, and service of the product. They include procurement, technology, human resources, and firm infrastructure. Supporting functions add value, albeit indirectly, and they also have costs. In the case of supporting activities, it would be difficult to calculate the margin because the specific value added by a support activity is difficult to know.
