Answer to Question 1

Data replication is a popular option for data distribution in which a copy of the database is stored at two or more sites. This makes for a fault tolerant system. Replication may use either synchronous or asynchronous distributed database technologies. In most cases, asynchronous technology is used. By having multiple copies of the database, reliability is increased as well as response time, since queries can be done against a local copy of the database. Also, network traffic is reduced. A disadvantage of data replication is that a full copy of the database must be stored at each site, which increases storage costs.

Answer to Question 2
