Data has been accumulating over the years. Now there are huge data stores in existence that include both structured and unstructured data such as documents, log files, social media posts, traffic cameras etc., analyzing these large data stores offers the opportunity to understand trends and patterns as never before. Companies can track consumer habits in ways never dreamed of before. Scientists can analyze data such as genetics and weather in new and complex ways. Politicians can track voters. Governments can search for patterns that might reveal terrorist threats. Big data is a major part of the technological future.
