The SMEs coordinate and prioritize the functional requirements. They are the ones who have deep knowledge of how specific processes need to be done in the organization. The SMEs are crucial to a project because they will provide an example to the rest of the users, so if they understand the project and how it works and communicate it well to their colleagues this will go a long way to reduce users' anxiety and increase productivity.
