ERP implementation projects are large and complex. As a result, they are subject to all the risks associated with large projects. ERP systems change the way an organization works. This factor is usually not given enough attention, resulting in a major organizational upheaval in the process. It is imperative to stress the organizational change in structure and culture that must occur to make these systems successful.

1. Membership groups can be open or closed.
2. Interaction group members can be relatively independent or highly interdependent.
3. Hierarchy groups can be part of a larger hierarchy of groups or can be relatively autonomous.
4. Location group members can be located in close proximity or can be widely dispersed.
5. Time groups can exist for short or long periods of time and members may belong on a full-time or part-time basis.
