A

Answer to Question 2

Popular asynchronous protocols include XModem, YModem, ZModem, and Kermit. In general, asynchronous protocols are simple and relatively inexpensive to implement. However, they are not very efficient. Here is why. An asynchronous protocol requires that every data byte include a start and a stop bit before and after it. This means that each character's byte begins with a start bit and ends with a stop bit. Start bits are always 0, and stop bits are always 1.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. There used to be a metric calendar, as well as metric clocks. The metric calendar, or "French Republican Calendar" divided the year into 12 months, but each month was divided into three 10-day weeks. Each day had 10 decimal hours. Each hour had 100 decimal minutes. Due to lack of popularity, the metric clocks and calendars were ended in 1795, three years after they had been first marketed.
