Answer to Question 1

The job of the data service unit (DSU) is to convert signals from the connecting device, again, usually a bridge, router, or PBX, into the type of digital signal, usually bipolar, required by the leased line. The CSU/DSU can be configured to provide channeled or unchanneled services.
