Answer to Question 1

Multi-Protocol Label Switching, or MPLS, works by means of what is referred to as label or tag switching. A major advantage of MPLS is its ability to transfer any type of protocol data over any type of transport medium over any WAN technology. Also, MPLS has been developed such that it can accommodate mechanisms for varying classes of service. These classes of service are used to identify whether packets should be given preference in their routing. What this means to the business is that higher priority data can be labeled or tagged in such a way that this data receives preferred services and routing across the WAN. Being able to prioritize packets is definitely an advantage given that not all data needing to be transported by an enterprise is of equal importance. Often, MPLS networks are privately owned by large telecommunication service providers.
