Deliveries to retailers and customers may be delayed for several reasons. Reasons range from an inability to accurately forecast demand to ineffective e-tailing supply chains. EC is based on the concept of pull operations that begin with an order, frequently a customized one. In the EC pull case, it is more difficult to forecast demand because of lack of experience and changing consumer tastes. Another reason for delays is that, in a B2C pull model, many small orders need to be organized to be delivered to the customers' doors, whereas in brick-and-mortar retailing, the goods are shipped in large quantities to retail stores where customers pick them up.
