In 2015, Amazon finally began to show investors and analysts what they had been waiting years to seesigns of long-term profitability. The company reported a 92 million profit in the second quarter of 2015, up from a 126 million loss over the same period in 2014. North American sales, particularly in electronics and general merchandise, spurred the strong quarter, and Amazon's projections indicate that this growth is likely to continue throughout the year and beyond. The profitability of its AWS unit is also a major positive for Amazon, and that segment showed continued rapid growth. Amazon Prime is also a key component of the company's strong performance. Overall, over the first six months of 2015, Amazon registered over 45 billion in sales, up over 17 from the 39 billion logged during the same period the previous year. While the company continues to spend heavily on future products and services, Amazon at last appears to have turned the corner to profitability.
