In March of 2008, an estimated 170,235 RNs living in the United States received their initial nursing education in another country or U.S. territory, claiming 5.6 of the total nursing popula-tion. Approximately half of the IENs were originally from the Philippines (48.7), 11.5 from Canada, and 9.3 were from India (BHPR, 2010).
