The nurse manager is meeting resistance from the staff because they think that it will take longer and the nurses will not finish their shift on time. Change is always difficult, especially when it has been forced on people, threatens their security, or seems unnecessary. Change is more palatable when nurses participate in the planning and im-plementation and see that it is worthwhile. Trying the new change shift report for only 1 week does not give enough time for nurses to become proficient with this type of report; therefore evaluations will very likely be negative. Also, implying that it will be evaluated may result in nurses thinking that if the evaluations are negative, they will be able to return to the previous way of doing things.
