Answer to Question 1

A
DRGs are patient groupings established by the federal government for reimbursement purposes. DRGs are sorted by patient disease or condition. This model assumes that, on average, this measure will reflect the nursing care required and provided. The data are used by hospitals in determining the costs of nursing care and negotiating contracts with payers for specific patient populations.
