Answer to Question 1

C
Mentoring in nursing generally occurs between an experienced nurse (or preceptor) and a novice nurse. It consists of a one-on-one relationship between the two nurses, focuses on professional aspects of nursing, is mutually beneficial, and involves good communication.

Answer to Question 2

A
Calfee (1998) provides some useful communication recommendations for handling telephone miscommunication. Some of these recommendations are: 1) if the physician gives an inappropriate answer or no orders, document the call, the information relayed, and the fact that no orders were given. Contacting the supervisor can also be correct, but completing a peer review report in this situation would not be appropriate since the nurse is not a peer of the physician. Completing an incident report would be appropriate only if the physician hangs up/terminates the call. Completing a physician's order is illegal without the physician's dictation of orders to the nurse.
