Answer to Question 1

2
Explanation: 1. After having agreed on specific ways to strengthen performance in problem areas, schedule a
subsequent meeting, usually 4-6 weeks after the appraisal interview. A later meeting provides
feedback regarding performance. The annual appraisal will automatically occur next year. The
manager should be the one to conduct a follow-up appraisal since she was the one to critique
and offer methods regarding improvement. Human resources may be contacted to mediate but
they are not able and do not have the knowledge to evaluate the nurse.

Answer to Question 2

3
Explanation: 1. Poor performance contributes to decreased morale and productivity. The matter should be
addressed in a timely matter but the issue is staff morale. Informing the human resources
department and changing the staff mix may be steps taken at a later date.
