Answer to Question 1

Correct Answer: 4

Culture shock is the state of being disoriented or unable to respond to a different cultural environment because of its sudden strangeness, unfamiliarity, and incompatibility to the stranger's perceptions and expectations. Ethnocentrism refers to an individual's belief that his or her culture's beliefs and values are superior to those of other cultures. Acculturation, also referred to as assimilation, is the integration of the cultural patterns of the dominant or host culture into the person's way of life. Cultural sensitivity is the respect and appreciation for cultural behaviors based on an understanding of the other person's perspective.

Answer to Question 2

In some cultures, another person other than the client will make the decision for the client. The nurse must recognize and bring in the decision person to inform that person and have that person make the healthcare decision. Show respect for the client's support people.
