Answer to Question 1

A
Benchmarking is defined as the continuous process of measuring products, services, and practices
against the toughest competitors or those customers recognized as industry leaders (The Joint
Commission, 2009; Camp, 1994). The purpose of benchmarking is not to compare number of cases,
compete with the other hospital, or for the staff to work harder.
