Hospital surveillance is used to improve quality of care and outcomes. An example is an infection that occurs in patients who had procedures at that facility. Reduction of the incidence of ventilator-acquired pneumonia is one reason why a hospital uses surveillance, but it does not ad-dress the entire issue.
