It was suggested that public health department funding for making home visits be cut because so much time and money were spent in travel and such expenses seemed inappropriate in a time of fiscal restraint.

  A. Research has shown home visits save far more than their cost in decreasing child abuse, drug-resistant infections, and even emergency department visits.
