Answer to Question 1

Answer: An ideal response will:
1. Correctly identify at least one major policy issue or controversy for each of the governors.
2. Explain each governor's style and interactions with the legislature and others.
3. Identify possible correlates of success, such as understanding powers of the governor, recognizing public opinion and picking major issues and initiatives accordingly, working with the media, forming coalitions, and party composition of the legislature.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: An ideal response will:
1. Discuss the limitations on governors from relatively weak formal powers.
2. Identify and explain at least four of the six informal resources in Table 6-3.
