Answer to Question 1

B

Answer to Question 2

The Europeans established extractive colonies primarily to extract abundant natural resources. Extractive colonies experienced minimal European settlement as these were relatively difficult places to live due to their climate and harsh terrain. Since the imperial power's primary interest was to extract and transfer wealth back to the home country, colonial administrators paid little attention to safeguarding the rights and the private property of the locals. Instead, they ruled via slave or forced labor and impeded the emergence of representative assemblies and checks on government power. Extractive colonial authorities also deliberately sought to deter the development of local trade and discouraged private sector investment in the local economy.
