An ideal response will:
1, Explain why 10 to 15 states are considered swing states, while the remaining 35 to 40 states are either solid Republican- or Democrat-controlled states.
2, Discuss why the Republican candidate should focus a lot of money in swing states that have higher electoral votes, such as Ohio and Florida. The candidate should spend less time and money in states with very few electoral votes, such as Vermont.

An ideal response will:
1, Identify the Cold War as a period of intense hostility between the United States and the Soviet Union over communism that did not involve direct military combat.
2, Explain how the war in Afghanistan was about fighting terrorism and involved direct military combat.
