1, List the major functions of American political parties including the following: recruit candidates, organize government, connect branches of government, inform voters, mobilize voters, integrate new groups into the political process, give voters leverage over elected officials, and provide information cues on policy.
2, Discuss how a party label makes it easy for voters to recognize the most desirable candidate.

Answer to Question 2

An ideal response will:
1, Examine the problem of turnout and the organizations that addressed it (e.g., Rock the Vote, Americans Coming Together).
2, Show how the aftermath of the 2008 election was partly decided by the youth vote.
3, Discuss how elections since 2008 have seen a decline in the youth vote.
