1, Describe how Native Americans have suffered from overt discrimination, nonexistent economic opportunities, government-facilitated loss of their property, and widespread poverty.
2, Describe how they have advanced their cause in recent years through the court pathway, especially in the case of Cobell v. Kempthorne, in which a federal judge ruled that the Bureau of Indian Affairs had mismanaged and lost billions of dollars owed to Native Americans for oil and gas revenues and other leases on their land, and set in motion events to enable Native Americans to receive compensation.
