What was the purpose of the Equal Rights Amendment? Why was it/might it have been unsuccessful? If it had been ratified, how would the outcome be different than the rights of women today?

1, Note that the Equal Rights Amendment was one of the main objectives of the women's movement that ultimately failed. Discuss that the amendment's purpose was to guarantee equal treatment for men and women by all levels of government. The religious conservative movement opposed the amendment because it feared that its passage would undermine traditional family values. Other reasons may be that certain women wanted special protections, not equal protection. Other thoughtful potential reasons that the amendment may have been opposed may be included.
2, Discuss how women's rights would have advanced similarly or differently had the ERA passed.
