An ideal response will:
1, Explain why and how region can affect public opinion.
2, Identify several significant historical factors that distinguish the South from the rest of the country, including the legacy of slavery, black migration, segregation, late industrialization, and regional partisan affiliation.

Answer to Question 2

An ideal response will:
1, Define political socialization as the process by which individuals acquire their beliefs and attitudes.
2, Identify one or more agents of socialization and discuss their role in political socialization (e.g., family, schools, and the media).
