1, Define the U.S. winner-take-all electoral system as an electoral system in which legislative seats are awarded only to candidates who come in first in their constituencies.
2, Explain that third-party candidates can siphon off votes from major-party candidates and thereby affect election outcomes.
3, Mention that Ralph Nader and the Green Party may have caused Al Gore to lose the presidency in the election of 2000 .
