Answer to Question 2

An ideal response will:
1, Contrast attitudes toward women during the first and second waves of feminism. During the first wave, attitudes often focused on the need to protect women and accepted their traditional role in the family. During the second wave, many of these attitudes and beliefs were challenged. Women did not need to be protected and preserving the traditional role of women was decidedly less important.
2, Discuss how second-wave feminism focused on the importance of women's equality. This was at the heart of the Supreme Court's decision in Reed v.Reed. Arbitrary gender-based classifications violate the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
3, List some of the women's issues that are now being addressed, including gender discrimination in employment and sexual harassment.
