2. Explain why measuring intensity is important for understanding public opinion, but that it is difficult to measure.

1. Identify George Gallup (19011983) as the founder of the Gallup Organization and modern-day polling.
2. Discuss the importance of George Gallup's accurate prediction of the 1936 election, in contrast to the Literary Digest's miscalculation, for launching his career and for helping to advance the use of polling and survey research to monitor trends in public opinion.
