The teacher must be competent to teach the academic subjects to which she is assigned, the curriculum must be appropriate for the students, and instruction must include opportunities for students to learn, practice, and receive feedback. 2) Students must know what is expected of them behaviorally. 3) If the academic program is solid and if positive behavioral expectations have been taught, then strategies for responding to problem behavior can be successful.
