Answer to Question 1

The purpose of the workshops is to share explicit information about the children's development and the class curriculum, and to provide practical suggestions that parents may use at home to support their child's learning. To begin, the teacher should design a needs assessment survey to determine parents' special interests and needs.

Answer to Question 2

These types of activities create language content (i.e., give children something to talk about). In addition, children must use language to participate successfully in these types of activity.
