Even though intercaste mobility has always been limited in India, there are increasing instances in recent years of people moving up the caste ladder. It involves taking on behaviors, practices, and values associated with the Brahmin caste, such as being a vegetarian, giving large dowries for daughters, and wearing sacred clothing associated with Brahmins.
