ANSWER:
Matrilineal is where inheritance and descent is traced through the mothers line, whereas matriarchy is a mythical situation (one that has not been demonstrated to exist).

ANSWER:
Horizontal function integrates society through marriage alliances while the vertical provides social continuity across generations.
