The text presents five examples of indigenous groups whose existence is being threatened or destroyed by industrial pursuit of resources. These examples are used to illustrate that:
 
  a. much of the world has little knowledge or understanding of the destruction of small ethnic groups like these.
  b. political action on the part of indigenous peoples can successfully protect them from destruction.
  c. the United Nations has effective programs and policies for protecting indigenous peoples throughout the world.
  d. the rights of indigenous peoples are completely ignored today.
