Many anthropologists agreed that women's lower status in society was caused by the private/public dichotomy. Ernestine Friedl disagreed. What were her arguments against this position?

Answer to Question 1

She argued that women's lowered status was a factor of economics. She noted that in societies where women's status was higher, they had equal access to control of distribution and exchange of goods and services.

Answer to Question 2

It is the ways in which gendered activities and attributes are differentially valued and related to the distribution of resources, prestige, and power in a society.
