Answer to Question 1

One trend is that increasing numbers of Belizeans have migrated to the U.S. and developed their own national Belize cuisine here. Some of these people have returned to Belize and opened national Belizean restaurants there. The second trend is increasing numbers of tourists have pushed Belizeans to open more international restaurants that cater to the needs of this very different group.

Answer to Question 2

Receiving a gift implies that the recipient is involved in a relationship because it necessitates that he give a return gift at some point. This giving and receiving creates a long-term relationship.
