It has made anthropologists more likely to be politically and socially engaged with those they are studying and it has led to research that is more likely to focus on relationships and exchanges between the informant communities and the rest of the world.

Answer to Question 2

He means that both the anthropologist and informant must protect and support each other in order to do work under such challenging situations.
