They are members of societies that have occupied a region for a long time and are recognized as the original (or very ancient) inhabitants.

Answer to Question 2

They help bridge the gap between clients and medical care providers, they help articulate the patients' needs and experiences, and their results help a community to make positive changes to their health programs.
