Answer to Question 2

Answer: Methods to foster middle-school literary reading should focus on increasing students' awareness of genre and strategies to share their personal responses to literature. Genre wheels work well to expand students' knowledge and chart their progress in reading various genres. Strategies to share understanding include, but are not limited to, book clubs, literature circles, graphic organizers, think-pair-shares, and mind mapping. Students should be given ample opportunities to read, respond, and share both orally and in writing.
