Answer to Question 1

TRUE

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Data available to teachers include formal assessments such as state assessments and standardized reading tests. For in-depth data, the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test gives a wealth of information. Informal teacher observations are also informative; listening to students talk in class discussions and asking students to retell a short section of text after reading gives a clear indication of how much of the text vocabulary they have grasped. Content area vocabulary development can be assessed using concept clustering activities.
The data collected and analyzed drives instructional planning. Instructional decisions should be based upon evaluation of data.
