3. aids in the development of new insights and understandings
4. extends and layers existing knowledge and comprehension
5. has the potential to spark a love for reading and influence reading habits
6. provides a model of fluent reading and a demonstration of the act of reading

8. provides exposure to a range of topics, styles, and genres, and helps to develop a taste in reading selections
9. improves listening skills
10. aids in the development of imagery
11. offers multiple perspectives and broadens a listener's worldview
