According to Rachel Mueller in The Worst Lover: Boyfriend Spirits in Senegal, the more common religion in Senegal is the Sufi sect of Islam.
 
  However, it is not uncommon for young women to be possessed by jealous and vindictive boyfriend spirits called faru rab, who make women act crazy and take off all of their clothes.
